In 2008, I moved from Fiji to New Zealand after accepting a job offer at a chemistry lab for a steel manufacturing company. My academic journey in pure science includes earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and completing postgraduate studies at the University of the South Pacific. Before relocating, I worked as an Analytical Chemist for a cement manufacturing firm in Fiji.
As I settled into my new life in New Zealand, I acquired my first investment property, which sparked my fascination with numbers, tax laws, and financial structures. This interest led me to connect with like-minded individuals, one of whom was a real estate investor who operated his own property management firm. He shared valuable insights about how property investing can effectively generate cash flow and helped me understand the dynamics of the real estate market. In exchange for his guidance, I supported him by managing accounts for his business. Recognizing my passion for bookkeeping, he introduced me to his network of colleagues.
That’s when I discovered Xero accounting software. Its intuitive interface quickly drew me in and inspired me to master it further. During the first lockdown in March 2020—after using Xero for about a year—I decided to pursue formal certification and successfully completed a diploma program that granted me advisor-level certification.
My enthusiasm for numbers has guided me into a consulting profession where I’ve come to appreciate the crucial role that good bookkeeping plays in business success.
